Through a cooperation with the Dover Housing Authority (DHA), CAPSC works with elderly residents in becoming or remaining financially and socially independent through a variety of coordinated programs, with the goal of helping them age in place in a supportive environment. Covered Bridge Manor contains 26 apartments for residents aged 62 and over. Amenities include a common room, laundry room, and three-season patio area.
Danielle Holt, the Director of Programs at Covered Bridge, says residents create and foster a unique culture filled with fun, and that one of the benefits of living at Covered Bridge is the ability to meet and socialize with others.
Last summer, Helen offered to teach the card game Whist on Tuesday mornings to anyone who wanted to learn. Libby took her up on the offer, and a couple more joined in who already knew how to play. They had such a good time, that they agreed to meet again the next week. For over a year now Helen, Libby, June, and Carol have had a standing game every Tuesday at 10:30am, and recently added Saturdays as well! By the way, Helen thinks Libby is now an expert player!
“This game benefits our memory, as there is strategy involved. In the beginning it was a struggle to teach the game. We now enjoy friendly competition as everyone has improved their game. We are getting to know each other better and have created friendships we might not otherwise have.”
