Where did the summer go? It’s already mid-August?!
Our Summer Meals program wraps up on August 18th, and we are so happy with the success of this year’s program so far! Through this program, we provide a fresh and nutritious breakfast and lunch for children up to age 18 (for FREE), who would normally receive meals at school. Meals are served at various locations across Strafford County, such as schools and community centers.
Our Summer Meals program started out small in 2012, serving 3,500 meals at 2 open sites. Fast forward 10 years and our program is thriving. In 2022, we served 35,000 meals at 20 distribution sites in Strafford County.
One of the rock stars of this year’s program is Amanda, one of our Summer Meals drivers. Amanda works for our Early Childhood Education program during the school year as a Program Assistant where she greets families everyday, and assists with classroom activities. She loves that she can still see many of these kids at Summer Meals when class is out for the season. She even gets to see some kids that have gone on to grade school and stay in touch through the Summer Meals program. Hopefully these pictures show that summer meals runs rain or shine!
We also heard from a boy who regularly attends the program at one of our sites. He appreciates that we come to his neighborhood so it’s easy for him to get the meals. His mom shared that they are not always able to get to the food pantry because of her work schedule. He enjoys saving the seeds from his produce and has grown several fruit trees and now wants to be a farmer!
Come find our friendly faces on-site for breakfast and lunch throughout Strafford County. These sites are open to all children aged 0-18 and do not require any registration or signup.

When school lets out for the summer, families who receive free or reduced-price meals at school can find it financially hard to provide nutritious food between the end of June and the start of the new school year. CAPSC helps to bridge this gap by providing breakfast and lunches, at no cost, at our many meal distribution sites in Strafford County.

Founded in 1965, CAPSC is the sole provider in Strafford County to offer a full suite of programs and services designed to have a measurable impact on the health and welfare of at-risk children, seniors, and people experiencing low incomes.
Without the services provided by our agency, many local residents would be without a means to provide for their basic needs, including food, education, child care, utilities assistance, transportation, housing, emergency shelter and access to other services.
