Why did you choose CAPSC for your summer internship?
I previously interned at CAPSC this past winter. My brothers have both worked for the company,
and my mom does too, so I knew the mission and was very interested in working here. After my
winter internship, I knew I wanted to come back for the summer. Being able to help the
community has been very rewarding and every day, and I knew I wanted to spend my summer
at CAPSC too.
What things have you been involved with at CAPSC this summer?
This summer I have been interning in the Advancement Department. My primary jobs have been the social media posts all summer, updating our volunteer database, and preparing for our 23rd annual CAPSC Classic Golf Tournament this September.
What has been your favorite part of the internship so far, and what have you learned from
it?
My favorite part of the internship has been being able to use my creativity every day. I love
designing the graphics for our social media posts. I have been able to learn about all our
programs and all the areas CAPSC can reach by writing each post. My main goal is that our
social media followers can see all what CAPSC has to offer and all the support we can give.
What memories will you take with you when summer ends?
One memory I will take with me is the power our community has when we all band together.
During our first heat wave of the summer, I was working in our cooling shelter. Seeing all the
emergency donations coming in that day was incredible. It was amazing to know all the people
who left their air conditioning those days to come out and donate to CAPSC. We were able to
partner with other organizations to distribute our donations to our local areas, leaving an even
bigger impact on others in the heat.
What, if anything, has changed at CAPSC or in the community during your different intern experiences? And how have your successive internships differed one from another?
Through my internships I have noticed the change in donation needs and a shift of priorities throughout the seasons. Though all our services are year-round, I noticed our donations needs the most. There was a big push for winter gear and hygiene products during my winter internship, and now our donations are focused on water and hydration packets. There is currently shift starting in some programs, and winter clothes are now accepted, which is a full circle moment for me. Through interning in our Advancement Department, I have seen a lot of our donations and worked with our donors. I am always so amazed at the generosity in our community.
This summer in my second internship with CAPSC, I have been even more hands on and continued the work I started last winter. For instance, last winter I designed the social media posts, and this summer I have worked on planning out the scheduled posts and creating the content too. I have loved getting to work further on the projects I started in the winter, and this summer internship has been such a great opportunity.
