CAPSC Hosts Senior Focus Group at Covered Bridge Manor to Inform Future Services
DOVER, NH — Community Action Partnership of Strafford County (CAPSC), in partnership with the University of New Hampshire (UNH), hosted a resident focus group on April 14, 2026, at Covered Bridge Manor, creating an opportunity for seniors to share feedback on programs, services, and community needs.
The session is part of CAPSC’s ongoing commitment to listening to residents and strengthening services that support older adults across Strafford County.
Participants shared overwhelmingly positive experiences with CAPSC programs, particularly highlighting transportation services as a key resource for maintaining independence and social connection. Residents described CAPSC as “informative,” “reliable,” and an important part of daily life.
“It is great having something like the CAP bus—having something to do every day,” one resident shared.
In addition to positive feedback, residents offered valuable insights into areas for growth. Key themes included a desire for expanded opportunities to stay active, such as gardening, walking groups and wellness-focused classes. Many also expressed interest in improving digital literacy, including learning how to use smartphones, share photos and navigate social media.
Transportation flexibility and affordable housing options for seniors were also identified as priorities. Residents emphasized the importance of accessible, affordable housing and more adaptable transit scheduling.
Communication preferences emerged as another important topic. While digital communication is useful, many residents noted the continued importance of printed materials in shared community spaces. Increasing awareness of CAPSC’s full range of programs and simplifying access to information were also highlighted as opportunities for improvement.
Residents also discussed food access, expressing interest in a “shopping-style” pantry model that offers greater choice and more fresh options.
“This kind of direct feedback is essential to our work,” said Betsey Andrews Parker, CEO of CAPSC. “We are grateful to the residents of Covered Bridge Manor for sharing their experiences and ideas, and to the University of New Hampshire for their partnership in helping us listen and learn. Their input will directly inform how we strengthen and expand services moving forward.”
CAPSC will use the insights gathered from this focus group to guide future program development and enhance services for seniors throughout the region.
