Welcome to our interview with Ella, one of our interns at Community Action Partnership of Strafford County this summer of 2024!
Our interns have a major impact on CAPSC in every way imaginable!
In these interviews, they share their experiences as college students and young adults entering the professional world through this opportunity with CAPSC. Although they have been involved in some of the same events and programs over the past couple months, they have each been drawn to different areas of the organization based on personal interests. We discuss how these interests have shaped their experiences and what lessons they have learned along the way.
Why did you choose CAPSC for your summer internship?
I chose CAPSC because after doing some research on what the organization does I thought it would fit great with my major, Health Management and Policy, and I felt like it was an opportunity where I can expand my knowledge and experience within the public health department. I also talked to a previous intern from the summer before and she spoke very highly about CAPSC, the working environment and all the opportunities she had.
What things have you been involved with at CAPSC this summer?
This summer at CAPSC I have been helping with the Diaper Distribution Grant and creating a data dashboard to summarize and organize, reviewing invoices, partnerships, trainings, deliveries, and more. Being able to go out on deliveries and meet our partners added another layer of fulfillment which I was able to do this past week!
What has been your favorite part of the internship so far, and what have you learned from
it?
My favorite part of the internship so far has been working the front desk at the food pantry. It has been very rewarding, providing me with valuable administrative experience and allowing me to engage with a diverse range of people. This has been great for my communication skills, building interpersonal relationships, and gaining office administration experience.
What memories will you take with you when summer ends?
Memories I will take with me when summer ends include the enjoyable experiences I’ve had, such as working at the food pantry, attending the board and housing commission meetings, receiving Narcan training, and filming for the national CAP video. These memories also include the significant impact I’ve been able to contribute to, which I will carry with me beyond the summer.
CAPSC provides many services dedicated to providing food to families in need. Through our food pantry, summer meals program, and holiday food basket programs, which are open to the community, our aim is to reduce malnutrition by providing access to nutritious food and supplies to anyone who walks through our doors.
We thank the many members of our community who give their time, their skilled expertise, and their warm smiles in support of the programs at CAPSC. If you are interested in getting involved in one of our programs, we have many options.
Whether you are interested in a one-time event, or want to find a recurring volunteer spot, our goal is to try to match our needs with your interests, and to grow our family of caring individuals who give so much back to their community.
