Weatherization saves people money and helps reduce dependency on fuel assistance by making their homes more energy efficient. For eligible clients, state-certified Weatherization specialists perform an energy audit on the client's home. If approved, a trained work crew may make improvements that can include: installing insulation; installation of carbon monoxide and fire detectors; weatherstripping. All work is subject to the availability of funding.

Weatherization is statewide program administered by the New Hampshire Office of Energy and Planning. The program is funded by federal grants from the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program.

Priority is given to the elderly; disabled residents; household with children under the age of 6; households with high fuel use; and the number of years a household has been on fuel assistance. Weatherization measures are typically prioritized by cost effectiveness and by health and safety standards.

Weatherization Testimonial

Karen of Rochester recently had improvements made to her home by the Weatherization team, and she was just thrilled with the results.

"Oh it's made a big difference. My bedroom is a lot warmer." she said of the improvements. "I've probably saved 1 ½ to 2 tanks of oil which is a lot."

Karen, who lives alone and is disabled and on a fixed income, said the workers were professional and courteous.

"Those guys are wicked awesome," she said.
